AIK agree Matthys deal as medical looms

Matthys deal agreed, medical next

AIK have an agreement with Belgian centre-back Hervé Matthys (1) (2). The 30-year-old arrives on a free transfer from Polish side Motor Lublin and is expected in Solna for his medical shortly (2).

Matthys bolsters a backline that has been stretched thin. Henning Berg had twelve players unavailable for the IFK Göteborg match, forcing six changes to the starting eleven (background). A left-footed centre-back who can also play left-back, Matthys brings experience from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Poland.

The deal is not yet signed. The medical is the next step (2).

Flataker heading for the exit

Striker Erik Flataker is close to a move to Go Ahead Eagles (background). His departure leaves another gap in a squad already running on fumes, and sitting 11th in the table with 15 points from 11 matches.

The Göteborg win bought time

Axel Kouame scored his first goal for AIK in the 2–1 comeback at IFK Göteborg, a result that steadied things after a tough run (background). Your team have taken six points from the last two. The form line reads L W coming into the weekend.
