The women's derby was the week's football
Brommapojkarna 2–5 AIK in Damallsvenskan, and AIK Women were 1–2 down before they turned it. Four goals in the second half at Grimsta, a Stockholm derby won, and fourth place held with two rounds left (3) (27). It also came against a BP side who had just secured their Allsvenskan place for 2027, which is what a 5–2 does: it makes the other team's good news sound secondary (11). The men's side spent the same week proving it cannot hold a lead either, drawing 2–2 at home to IF Elfsborg five days after beating IK Sirius 1–2 away. Eighth place, 38 points, goal difference -3, form L L D W D. That is the season in one line.
Eighth is not a crisis, it is a diagnosis
Look at the numbers and the shape of the campaign is clear: AIK score enough and concede at the worst times. 2–2 against Elfsborg came four days after a win in Uppsala, which is what mid-table looks like when you cannot string the good version of yourself across a fortnight (2). One game in five you get the team that beats Sirius away. The other four you get the team that shipped six at home to Brommapojkarna in October and lost 2–1 to Halmstad in September. Fifth to eighth is a matter of two results. The problem is that AIK keep producing the wrong two.
The story hovering over all of it
On Thursday came the report that hits harder than any result. Three players who featured for AIK in 2023 are suspected of deliberately trying to lose a match in the hope of getting Andreas Brännström sacked, and a former Sweden international has been formally notified of the suspicion (8) (10) (23). Prosecution is described as a long way off (10). The investigator leading it, Andreas Morander, put the status plainly: "Vi har en igangværende efterforskning, vi samler beviser, og vi gennemgår det" (8). Three years on, this is now part of how the club's recent history gets read, and no form guide survives that comparison.
Kouame is the exception
Axel Kouame has been one of AIK's best players this season (6). He was also close to leaving: Al-Ettifaq made three bids in the summer, the last around 40 million kronor, and AIK accepted before the move collapsed (14) (29). "Det var en fantastisk möjlighet för mig. Att de ville ha mig betydde mycket," he said (14). He is still here. That is the single best piece of AIK business of 2026, and it happened by accident.
What to watch
GAIS away on Monday, then BK Häcken at home on 8 November. GAIS bring a weak attack against an AIK defence that has wobbled all autumn (22), which is exactly the game AIK should win and have repeatedly failed to. Then Häcken, who will punish the lapses that produce a 2–2 from a lead. Two wins and eighth looks like a floor. Two draws and the diagnosis becomes the verdict. Also worth watching the market: Minnesota United and New York Red Bulls are on Abdihakim Ali, who can leave as a Bosman this winter (5) (20), while Filip Lukic, 19, signed from Vasalund through 2029 does not arrive until 1 January (1) (18).
