Yohanna sold to Brighton in record deal
It's official, AIK have sold 18-year-old Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna to Brighton & Hove Albion in the biggest transfer in Allsvenskan history. The fee is reported between 270 and 305 million Swedish kronor, about £21.5 million, with AIK netting roughly 130–170 million kronor after all splits (1).
Yohanna made just 18 senior appearances before the Premier League came calling. Former Nigerian international Peter Ijeh, who helped broker the player's original move to AIK, called it "fantastic and good for the kid and everyone involved" (1). Real Madrid and Newcastle had both tracked the winger before Brighton won the race (1).
New Nigerian trialist on the way
Days after the Yohanna sale, AIK are already working the same pipeline. The club have invited 18-year-old Nigerian winger Shedrack Egboh to Stockholm for a trial (2) (3).
Swedish outlet Bollsvenskan describes him as a fast and technical wide player in the same mould that produced Yohanna (2). If the trial goes well, AIK could move quickly to add him to the squad (3).
Where AIK stand
AIK sit 10th with 12 points from 10 matches and a negative goal difference. The Yohanna windfall is monumental, recruitment chief Miika Takkula has already said the money won't spark wild spending, but it gives the club breathing room at a time they badly need it. Meanwhile, midfielder Stanley Wilson has been extended through 2029 as AIK lock down their other breakout talent.
