Ajax had concrete interest in Mats Rots last year and indicated they were ready to pay around €5 million, but FC Twente rejected it outright (1) (3). Twente's technical director Arnold Bruggink put it bluntly: "They never made an official bid, but they did indicate roughly what they wanted to pay. His agent said: you're crazy" (1) (5) (6). Rots has since moved to Hoffenheim for a record fee. Bruggink admits he has mixed feelings about how it played out (5).
