Weekly Analysis

Almirante Brown's five-game slump puts the Reducido in doubt

The week the fragata stopped floating

San Telmo 3–2 Almirante Brown, on the Isla Maciel, and the third straight defeat. Five games without a win now: two draws, then three losses (4) (5). El1 put it plainly, the Mirasol "entró dormido" and paid for it (6). Ole called it a hard blow (9). Both are right.

The alarming part is not the result. It is who handed it over. San Telmo are fighting relegation in Zona A, and that win stretched their cushion over San Miguel to six points (8). Almirante Brown went to a team scrambling for its life and lost. Sixth place in Zona A and 46 points will not protect a club whose form reads D D L L L.

The Reducido race got shorter

Godoy Cruz 2–1 Los Andes took Godoy Cruz four points clear of Colón in Zona A (10). Table context matters here. Every rival picking up points while the Mirasol drops them closes the door a little further, and Estudiantes plus Ciudad Bolívar are creeping closer (4). The source line says it best: "No nos den por muerto," from Porque Tendencia Ascenso (10). That warning applies in both directions now.

Aníbal Biggeri's side has four fixtures left in its run to the Reducido: San Miguel, Colón, Deportivo Morón, Godoy Cruz (6). That is not a gentle schedule.

San Miguel at the Fragata, and the door that almost shut

Sunday, October 11, 20:30 CEST: San Miguel at the Fragata Sarmiento, a side sitting in the relegation places (1) (7) and missing their away support after Aprevide denied the visiting fans (7). It is the softest landing available, and it is also non-negotiable. Win and the Reducido ticket is stamped. Drop points and Colón away on Saturday, October 17 becomes a season-decider (1).

There is scheduling news too: the Clásico del Oeste against Deportivo Morón has a confirmed date, Sunday, October 25, 15:30, the last home game of the regular phase (3). By then the table will have decided whether it is a coronation or a wake.

For now the job is simple and heavy at once. Beat the team in the drop zone, at home, or the next four weeks are a scramble.
