Brighton & Hove Albion 3–0 Arsenal on Saturday afternoon at the Amex Stadium. Pascal Gross, Charlampos Koustolas and Chema Andres scored the goals (1). David Raya was in the Arsenal goal. It was Arsenal's first Premier League loss of the campaign (1).
You drop to 2nd on 12 points from 5 games, goal difference +4. Form in the league reads W W W W L. The gap at the top is small enough that it does not matter much yet. The performance does.
Declan Rice and Gabriel Magalhaes were both involved, and Mikel Arteta watched it all from the touchline (1).

What Brighton exposed
The reaction is not about the score. It is about how easily Brighton got at Arsenal (6). This was the last game before the international break, and the break could not have come at a better time for Arteta (6).
Arsenal have to draw the lessons now, not in October (6). You have seen this team win 1–0 away twice already this month. Brighton is the other side of that coin.
Rice pulled from the England squad
Declan Rice is one of five players who have withdrawn from Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the Nations League fixtures (9). Tino Livramento, Cole Palmer, Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford came out alongside him (9).
Rice is the one that matters to you. Arsenal need him fit for the return to club football (9).
Another defensive worry for Arteta
Arsenal's defence takes another hit. A young defender has withdrawn from the England Under-18 squad, and Arteta has a fresh injury concern on his hands (2). It lands right as the club season starts up again after the international break (2).
Madueke is not going anywhere in January
Noni Madueke stays. Arsenal will not let him leave in January despite his limited minutes (8). He has played just 24 minutes of Premier League football this season (8).
With Bukayo Saka and Max Dowman in the picture, Arteta is keeping his options (8).
Arsenal Women open the Champions League on Tuesday
Arsenal Women host HB Koge at Meadow Park at 8pm on Tuesday, matchday one of the Champions League group phase (3). Renee Slegers' side need a win to settle a slow start in the WSL (3).
Slegers knows the opponent. "I wasn't aware exactly of their ownership structure. I played against Koge when I was at Rosengard because it is just over the bridge, so we played against each other a lot in training games so I have a picture of the club" (3).
The new league phase format gives every one of the 18 teams six matches, and Mariona is in Arsenal's ranks for the opening rounds (4).
Quansah, Beier, Schade: the names on Arsenal's board
Arsenal have not dropped their interest in Jarell Quansah (7). Bayer Leverkusen, his current club, want €70m to €75m for the defender (7). Liverpool are also in on him (7). Arsenal were quoted €65m for him in the summer (7), so the price has gone up.
Maximilian Beier is the long-term striker option Arsenal are monitoring at Borussia Dortmund. Manchester United and Tottenham are in that race too (5).
Kevin Schade has become Mikel Arteta's main target for attacking rotation (10).
Liverpool moving to protect Ngumoha
Arsenal's interest in Rio Ngumoha has pushed Liverpool to accelerate contract talks with the 18-year-old winger (13).
"Obviously, Liverpool are desperate to keep hold of Ngumoha, and the player himself, I understand, is happy at Liverpool as well and is set to get regular starts this season," Pete O'Rourke said (13).
Separately, Liverpool have renewed their interest in Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read, who has also been on Arsenal's radar (12).
Fan reactions
The mood on r/Gunners is analytical rather than angry. The big thread of the week is a full data dump of gameweeks 1 to 5, with this season's numbers lined up against the same five fixtures last season, plus player and club breakdowns built from API-Footbal data.
