Guimaraes bid rejected as Arsenal line up Dortmund at the Emirates

Dortmund at the Emirates, Sunday 9 August

The Emirates Cup is back. Arsenal will host Borussia Dortmund on Sunday, 9 August, the club confirmed (2). Your first look at the team on home soil this summer. Dortmund reached the Champions League quarter-finals last season, so this will be a proper test.

Arsenal made a verbal offer for Bruno Guimaraes

David Ornstein dropped the news: Arsenal have made a verbal offer for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes (1). The bid came through intermediaries and was below £60m. Newcastle rejected it flatly and insist the 28-year-old is not for sale (1). Sandro Tonali is also on the radar, though that one looks even trickier (1).

Hincapie coming cheaper than expected

Piero Hincapie will cost Arsenal around £34.5m this summer (3). That is less than initially anticipated, which frees up budget elsewhere. The deal is not done, but the framework is there.

Tuchel: we need Saka desperately

Thomas Tuchel did not hold back. "We need him desperately, like every other player, in top shape and pushing," he said of Bukayo Saka (7). Saka is building fitness session by session ahead of the Panama match. Tuchel warned against putting everything on his shoulders: "It's not like Bukayo comes back and everything is solved" (7).

Fan reactions

The Ornstein scoop on Bruno Guimaraes lit up the subreddit. Fans are split between excitement at the ambition and frustration that Newcastle shut the door so quickly. The Emirates Cup announcement landed well, with supporters already circling 9 August.
