£77m World Cup winner on the radar

Arsenal are accelerating a shock move for a Spanish World Cup winner worth around £77m, with the club pushing to get it done (4). No name in the reports yet, but that is serious money, and the profile fits Arteta's push for proven quality.

White is back. Timber is close

Ben White is training with the team again. "Knee's all good. Started training back with the team last week," he said (3) (5).

Jurrien Timber is still in rehabilitation but edging closer. William Saliba is also back after his World Cup run (5). Your defence is nearly whole.

Stones on a free? Arteta is working the phone

John Stones is available on a free transfer and Mick Brown says the move makes sense: "He knows Mikel Arteta well after their time together at City, so I'm sure the manager will be playing a key role in convincing him" (6).

Experience. Zero fee. Someone to watch.

Bouaddi, Guimarães, and the midfield hunt

Arsenal and Manchester City are locked in a battle for Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi after his standout World Cup (9). A new bid for Newcastle captain Bruno Guimarães is also being prepared (9).

And from France: Manu Koné is another name in the frame, with Manchester United also interested (14).

Martinelli links will not go away

Four clubs are circling Gabriel Martinelli, Atletico Madrid and Manchester United among them (7). The reported price tag sits around €45–50m. Juventus and Roma have also made enquiries, per earlier reports.

No offer yet. But the noise is loud.

Where the Rogers deal fell apart

The inside story from The Athletic confirms Arsenal had a clear valuation of Morgan Rogers: £80m. They refused to go higher, and Chelsea got it done at £117m (1).

Former scout Bryan King did not hold back: "Why the hell didn't Arsenal sign Morgan Rogers after making a song and dance about their pursuit?" (8).

Quick hits

Ezri Konsa remains a target even after missing out on Rogers (10). Barcelona's financial situation could clear a path in the Julián Álvarez race (11). Arsenal have made fresh contact over Leipzig's €100m+ winger Yan Diomande, though PSG lead (12). And West Ham want teenage defender Jaden Dixon on loan (13).

Fan-reaktioner

The Rogers saga has hit a nerve. The £80m valuation versus Chelsea's £117m deal is the main talking point, with plenty of fans feeling the club was too rigid. Mikel Merino's World Cup win with Spain is the other big mood-lifter, a disallowed goal and a winners' medal, very on-brand. Read the full inside story on Rogers.
