Elijah Upson crosses the divide
Arsenal have signed 18-year-old defender Elijah Upson from Tottenham, and the name will ring a bell. His dad, Matthew Upson, played for Arsenal between 1997 and 1999, joining around the same age (1) (2).
Elijah was direct about the family link: "My dad signed here around the same time as me, it's great to have someone with a good experience of the place. But at the same time, I'm definitely looking forward to building my own reputation and getting started" (1).
He said the environment was the biggest factor, "an environment where you feel you can hopefully learn and get better as a person" (1). The teenager arrives to strengthen the academy, not the first team yet. Gabriel, Saliba, and Hincapie are the senior options Arteta already has.

Rogers chose Chelsea over Arsenal

Multiple reports claim Arsenal have opened direct talks with Newcastle, with a bid north of £70m expected and broad personal terms already in place. Fans are split between excitement and anxiety over whether Newcastle will budge at around £75m.
