Ederson to Manchester United is done
It's happening. Manchester United have reached a full agreement with Atalanta for Ederson, with Fabrizio Romano giving it the signature 'here we go' (1). The fee is reported at €40.5m/£35m for the 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder (2) (7). David Ornstein at The Athletic confirms the deal is agreed and Ederson will become Michael Carrick's first signing at Old Trafford (6) (8).
The move has been personally green-lit by Carrick, who sees Ederson as the long-term replacement for Casemiro in United's midfield (1) (3). After a season of transition off the pitch under new sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli, losing your midfield engine was always the big fear this summer, and now it's confirmed.
Marco Palestra wanted by half the Premier League... and Inter
The young defender, who impressed on loan at Cagliari, is now at the center of a three-way tug-of-war. Inter have already submitted a €40m offer, eyeing Palestra as the replacement for Denzel Dumfries, who is heading to Real Madrid (10). But Newcastle and Arsenal are circling too, both keen on a permanent deal (9). Palestra is expected to leave Bergamo this window, the question is simply where and for how much.
Fan reactions
United fans on Reddit are treating this as a major statement of intent from Carrick, with many pointing to Ederson's all-action style as exactly what their midfield has been missing. The r/reddevils thread is buzzing about the fee being reasonable in the current market, and several commenters are already calling it the best bit of business the club has done in years.
