Christian Ramirez is staying
Your leading scorer is not going anywhere. Austin FC have signed Christian Ramirez to a contract extension through the 2027-28 season (1). The club announced it on Friday.
Ramirez has been the one reliable thing about the 2026 season. Sporting director Khaled El-Ahmad did not dress it up: "Christian has earned this new contract through his performances and the qualities he brings to our group every day" (1).
It is a deal that makes sense for both sides. Ramirez stays where he is wanted, and Austin keeps a forward who has already done it in this league with Minnesota United, LAFC, Houston Dynamo and Columbus Crew (1).

The supporters' groups are still waiting
The Ramirez news does not fix the bigger problem. Fans walked out of Q2 Stadium over the removal of Daniela Silva, a supporter wearing an "Abolish ICE" shirt on Sept. 26 (2). The club has now responded to its supporters' groups: La Murga, Austin Anthem and Los Verdes (2).
There is no word yet on what that response actually gives them. That is the question hanging over the whole club right now, and it will not go away on its own.
Vancouver next, then Kansas City and Salt Lake
Your team sits 14th in the Western Conference on 31 points from 29 games, with a goal difference of -17. Form reads W D D L L.
Vancouver Whitecaps come to Q2 Stadium on Sunday, October 18. Austin won the reverse fixture 2–1 in Vancouver on September 14 (Recent results). After that it is Sporting Kansas City away on October 25, then Real Salt Lake at home on October 29.
Real Salt Lake is the one a few people will have circled. Austin beat them in the October playoff match at Q2 Stadium, and the Salt Lake players heard plenty from the home fans that day (2).
Fan reactions
The Ramirez extension drew a straightforward welcome on r/AustinFC, with the signing thread doing the rounds. The mood turns fast though. The most-read post of the day is titled "Saying a whole lot of nothing", and the top comment inside it is blunt: the club just wants seats filled, it does not care about the people filling them. A match preview going up ahead of Sunday frames the walkout in the same terms, "Standing up by Walking Out", and calls fandom difficult.
