Kounde injured days before World Cup kicks off
Jules Kounde has picked up a muscle injury during a France friendly and is now a serious doubt for the start of the 2026 World Cup (4). The Barcelona defender suffered the problem on June 8, less than a week before the tournament begins, awful timing for both player and club.
It is not yet clear how long Kounde will be sidelined, but losing a player of his quality on the eve of a World Cup is a gut punch. You will be watching anxiously for updates from the France camp.

Lamine Yamal's World Cup fitness is in Spain's hands
Lamine Yamal is still working his way back from a hamstring injury, and Spain assistant Aitor Karanka says national team coach Luis de la Fuente will have the "final say" on when the 18-year-old returns to action (6). Yamal himself has admitted he is not at 100%, and Karanka stressed the decision will be made "in consultation with the doctors."
For Barcelona fans, this is both reassuring and unsettling, Spain will not rush him, but you know how hard it is to keep a generational talent off the pitch once the tournament lights come on.
Bastoni says no, top defensive target staying at Inter
Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni wants to stay in Italy, his agent Tullio Tinti has confirmed: "Er will sicher bei Inter bleiben", "He will definitely stay at Inter" (8). That is a blow for Hansi Flick, who reportedly had Bastoni high on his wishlist as a partner for Pau Cubarsi in central defence.
You can cross this name off the summer shopping list. The search for defensive reinforcements continues.
Goalkeeper hunt: Remiro available for €8m
Barcelona are in position to sign Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro for around €8 million, but only if they move another shot-stopper first (10). Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny are both named as players who could make way, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen remaining the undisputed number one.
Remiro, a Spain international, would arrive as a reliable backup, but Deco needs to sell before he can buy.
Lewandowski linked with shock United move
Former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi has called on his old club to sign Robert Lewandowski, describing the recently released Barcelona forward as a "no-brainer" of a free transfer (1). Rossi went further, calling it a "win-win" deal.
Lewandowski left Barcelona at the end of the season and is now available on a free. The idea of him at Old Trafford is generating chatter, though nothing concrete has emerged yet.
Rashford still pushing for Barcelona dream
Marcus Rashford is reportedly keeping Bayern Munich waiting while he focuses on securing what one Dutch outlet calls his "dream transfer" to Barcelona (13). The Manchester United forward is said to have told Bayern to hold off as he waits to see if the Catalan club can make the numbers work.
This one has been rumbling for weeks. There is clear interest on Rashford's side, but Barcelona's financial position means nothing is straightforward.
Off the pitch: Camp Nou loan, UCL final bid, and Xavi banned
Barcelona will request a €400 million loan from club members to finish the Camp Nou renovation, adding to the already staggering €1.45 billion project cost (11). The club has simultaneously submitted a bid to UEFA to host the 2029 Champions League final at the redeveloped stadium (12).
Meanwhile, Xavi Hernández has been banned from Barcelona Legends matches after reportedly criticising Joan Laporta and his former adviser Alejandro Echevarría (3). The former coach and club icon is now frozen out of official events, a grim reflection of how sour things have turned.

The Abdelkarim signing has been met with quiet optimism on Reddit, where fans see the €1.5m outlay as smart business for an 18-year-old striker who already showed flashes during his loan. The Champions League final bid is generating more noise, supporters are excited by the prospect of a showpiece European night at the Spotify Camp Nou, though some are questioning whether the stadium will actually be finished in time.
