FC Copenhagen have confirmed the death of former defender Marios Oikonomou at the age of 33. The Greek centre-back, who spent two seasons at the club, featured in 56 matches for the Lions between 2020 and 2022, winning the Superliga title in 2022. "We are deeply affected by the news of our former player Marios Oikonomou's passing at the age of 33," the club said in a statement. Oikonomou also earned six caps for Greece during a career that included spells at AEK Athens, Bologna, and Sampdoria before his time in Copenhagen.
