Barcelona at RAMS Park is the week
Galatasaray host Barcelona at RAMS Park on Tuesday, October 13, kick-off 21:00 CEST (2)(7)(20). This is the fixture the whole autumn was built around, and the table says Galatasaray reach it from a position of strength: top of the Süper Lig on 16 points from seven games (12).
The small details lean one way. Marco Guida of the Italian federation takes charge, and Barcelona have not won a game he has refereed (1)(10)(11). Barcelona also travel without Frenkie de Jong, who trained but does not make the trip (9)(16). Hansi Flick's side beat Getafe 3–0 in LaLiga and Flick said they "want to write history" (25). That is the standard Galatasaray are being measured against.
The league win was the platform, not the story
Kasımpaşa came and went: Galatasaray 3–1 at home on Friday, October 9 (12). That makes the form read W L W L W, and the pattern is now clear enough to name. When Galatasaray control a game they win it. When the opponent presses high and the midfield gets turned, the shape opens up: Sporting CP 3–1, Trabzonspor 4–0 (5)(27). Top of the table, but the two defeats are the only games where the structure actually broke.

Yunus Akgün and Jakobs have set the tone
Yunus Akgün after the Kasımpaşa win: "Now we have a massive match ahead of us, and we will prepare for it in the best possible way" (19). Ismail Jakobs went further: "Barcelona are a great team with incredible pedigree, but they have never experienced an environment like RAMS Park. Our stadium will burn on matchday" (21). The squad is not treating this as a learning exercise.
Gündoğan is the noise around the camp
İlkay Gündoğan's role has shrunk to the point where a winter exit is being speculated about (6). He was quoted after the Kasımpaşa game saying he is not playing, so how is he supposed to be ready, and Okan Buruk has answered it in public (18)(23)(24). Gündoğan is still in the squad for Barcelona. Every time he does not come off the bench, the question gets louder.
What to watch
Two games define the next fortnight. Barcelona at RAMS Park on Tuesday, October 13, then Gençlerbirliği away in the Süper Lig on Saturday, October 17 (a Gençlerbirliği win would be a real problem, given no dropped points can be spared at the top). After that, Lille away on Wednesday, October 21. Three games, and the Barcelona night tells you whether this team is a league leader or a European contender.
