Larrubia gives Málaga the edge as Jesé limps off

One foot in the final

Málaga beat Las Palmas 0–1 away in the first leg of the LaLiga Hypermotion play-off semifinal Sunday. David Larrubia scored the only goal in the 57th minute, giving your team a precious lead to take back to La Rosaleda. The win puts Málaga 90 minutes from the final and a step closer to returning to LaLiga (1) (3).

Jesé goes off injured

Jesé was substituted in the 41st minute with what looked like a hamstring problem. He was visibly frustrated leaving the pitch, and his availability for the return leg is now in serious doubt (4). Given his importance to the side, this is the one sour note from Sunday night.

Fan reactions

The mood on Reddit is cautiously optimistic – fans know the job is only half done. Larrubia's goal has everyone buzzing, but the Jesé injury is tempering the celebration. Most see the 0–1 result as exactly what you want from an away first leg: clean sheet, lead in the bag, everything to play for at home. See the discussion here.
