Sigurdsson gone, to Greece
Arnór Sigurdsson has left Malmö FF. Kalamata FC, newly promoted to the Greek Super League, have signed the 27-year-old Icelandic winger (2) (3). The fee is not disclosed. Sporting director Philip Berglund had already confirmed Sigurdsson was among the players the club wanted to move on this summer.
He leaves after 27 appearances for your team, none of them memorable. The move fits the clear-out Berglund promised, younger squad, smaller squad, less dead weight.
The 20-million-krona mistake
Details of Sigurdsson's contract have surfaced, and they are brutal. A 12 million SEK signing-on fee. A monthly salary of 200,000 SEK (1) (4). That totals roughly 20 million SEK over the length of the deal, for a player who never delivered.

Three Swedish clubs and four Danish clubs, IFK Norrköping, Djurgården, FC Köpenhamn, Bröndby, Midtjylland among them, were all offered the chance to take Sigurdsson before Kalamata stepped in (4). Blackburn Rovers and CSKA Moscow also surfaced as past links. Sporting director Daniel Andersson carries the weight of this one.
Berglund's summer clear-out was always going to be judged by who left and at what cost. This one cost plenty.
