Diego Garcia signs as World Cup slows Malmö's recruitment

Diego Garcia signs, contract to 2029

Malmö FF have signed Spanish forward Diego Garcia from CD Leganés. The deal was confirmed Friday, with Garcia signing through 2029 (1) (4). "I'm very happy to be here," Garcia said via the club's statement (4). Philip Berglund, newly installed as sporting director, handled the signing.

World Cup wrecks Malmö's recruitment window

The 2026 World Cup is making it hard for Malmö to get deals done. The summer transfer window overlaps with the tournament, and agents and players are unreachable or waiting until after their national teams finish. Malmö blew a 2–0 lead against Midtjylland in a friendly, but the bigger headache is the stalled recruitment work (2).

Botheim on the coaching search: "Great if one of them comes"

Erik Botheim addressed the Horneland and Helstrup rumours directly. "If one of them comes, that would be great," the Malmö forward said (3). The club made an initial approach to Horneland that stalled, and Gaute Helstrup of Bodø/Glimt is now a live alternative.

Rosengren confirms Bundesliga interest, no bids yet

Otto Rosengren says Leipzig, Hoffenheim, and Schalke have shown interest, but nothing concrete has landed on the table (5). The Malmö midfielder confirmed the attention himself. No offers, no negotiations, just eyes on him.
