Helstrup takes over at Malmö FF, debuts Saturday at Degerfors

Helstrup appointed: 'I'm really glad everything is in place'

Gaute Helstrup is your new head coach. Malmö FF announced the appointment on Tuesday (1) (2). The 49-year-old Norwegian arrives after spells at Bodø/Glimt, Tromsdalen, Ham-Kam, and Tromsø. "It feels very inspiring. I'm really glad everything is in place and we can get going now," Helstrup told the club's website. "Already during the process I've got a fantastic impression of the club. There's a warmth, a professionalism, and a clear ambition here" (1). He replaces the interim setup that had been in place, bringing clarity to a dugout that needed it.

First test: Degerfors away on Saturday

Helstrup takes charge of his first match this Saturday, away against Degerfors IF (1) (3). The timing is tight. No bedding-in period, no friendlies scheduled, just straight into a league fixture. Malmö sit 9th with 13 points from 10 games, and the chance to climb starts immediately.

Jansson: 'He ticks a lot of boxes'

Pontus Jansson has backed the appointment. The veteran defender told bollsvenskan.se that Helstrup "ticks a lot of boxes" for the club (3). Player buy-in matters when a new coach walks in mid-season, and Jansson's public endorsement sets a tone.
