Malmö FF look to hockey for an edge as season ticket crackdown looms

Hockey inspiration

Malmö FF are looking to the ice for answers. The club has reached out to SHL sides Rögle and Skellefteå to study how elite hockey organizations operate, with sporting coordinator Zlatko Rihter acknowledging the curiosity. "We can't copy directly since we have a ball and they have a puck, but it's interesting how they work and how incredibly professional they've become," Rihter said (1). It is the kind of outside-the-box thinking you would expect from a club resetting itself under new leadership, with Eirik Horneland's appointment as head coach imminent.

Season ticket clampdown

The club is also weighing a season ticket block to tackle the growing problem of empty seats at Eleda Stadion (2). Too many season ticket holders are skipping matches, leaving gaps in the stands that hurt both the atmosphere and matchday revenue. A use-it-or-lose-it mechanism could be introduced to ensure those seats are filled. For a fanbase that prides itself on being the loudest in Sweden, empty seats on a matchday are a bad look, and the club clearly agrees.
