Sigurdsson sold to Kalamata
Arnór Sigurdsson is gone. Malmö FF have sold the 27-year-old to Greek Super League newcomers Kalamata FC (1) (2) (4) (5). The deal closes the book on one of the most expensive contracts in Allsvenskan history, and one the club will want to forget.
The contract that became a flop
Sigurdsson arrived on a free transfer in February 2025, but the numbers were staggering. A 12 million kronor sign-on bonus. Monthly wages of 200,000 kronor. Total contract value around 20 million kronor (3) (4). Blackburn, Norrköping, Djurgården, FC Copenhagen, Bröndby, Midtjylland, and CSKA Moscow were all in the picture, but Daniel Andersson got it done (3). It never worked on the pitch.
Vecchia and Friedrich could follow
Sporting director Philip Berglund is not done. Stefano Vecchia and Ricardo Friedrich are also on the way out. "They want to play more," Berglund said (5). The summer clear-out is real, Sigurdsson is just the first name.
Fan reactions
The mood is relief more than anger. On r/soccer, fans described the Sigurdsson stint as a costly experiment that never clicked. The feeling is that freeing up his wages is good business, even if the 12 million kronor sign-on still stings. Read the discussion.
