Haaland and Mbappe put on a show, and City's next era stares back
Norway 2–2 France in the World Cup group stage on Thursday, and for 90 minutes it was Erling Haaland versus Kylian Mbappe (1). Haaland scored. Mbappe scored. The duel was everything.
For City fans, the real weight of the night was not the result. It was the reminder. Haaland's contract runs to 2027. He is 25. The club are about to hand the project to Enzo Maresca. And watching Haaland tear into France, you saw exactly what the new manager is being asked to build around.
The Mbappe subplot added another layer: two of the defining forwards of this generation, on the same pitch, pulling a World Cup match back and forth. City have one of them locked in. The question for Maresca is what the next attacking era looks like around him.
Reijnders expects heat against Morocco
Tijjani Reijnders is not expecting a friendly. The City midfielder spoke ahead of Netherlands' clash with Morocco and called it: "It'll be heated, on the pitch and in front of the screens back in the Netherlands too" (2). Reijnders also said he trusts the weaker phases in Oranje's game will disappear soon.
Fan reactions
The Anderson numbers are what got people talking. A £115m all-cash upfront deal, per Jack Gaughan, and another report pushing the figure to £130m set a British record. Some fans backed Hugo Viana. Others are still trying to figure out if the new sporting director has the instincts for this level. The Reddit thread on Viana is split right down the middle.
