John Stones is gone, Inter Milan on a free
One of the last pillars of the Guardiola era walked out the door Thursday. John Stones signed for Inter Milan on a free transfer, ending 10 years at City (2) (6) (7) (10) (12). The Serie A champions moved quickly to land the England defender, adding experience to a backline that just won the Scudetto.
Stones won everything at City, but his exit is part of a wider dismantling of the squad you watched dominate English football. The graphic going around the City subreddit tells the story: in two years, almost the entire core has been cleared out.
Real Madrid put Rodri talks on pause
Real Madrid have opened a "parenthesis" on Rodri's arrival, hitting pause on talks with City (1). They are prioritising a move for Ousmane Diomande instead. That does not mean Rodri stays, it means Madrid are not in a hurry right now.

The Spanish reports say negotiations are still "progressing well" overall (4), but City hold the cards for now. The question is whether Enzo Maresca wants to keep him.
Maresca may not be around long either
Former City scout Bryan King dropped a grenade. He says Maresca could leave City before Rodri does, pointing to a possible breakdown in the relationship between player and manager (3). "Why really would you sell Rodri at this stage of his career? You know, different things are happening. Pep has gone," King said (3).
Rodri and Maresca working together was always the post-Guardiola bet. That bet is now in question.
Bouaddi deal close, but Lille want him back on loan
City have a verbal agreement with Lille for midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, and the fee could push past £100m (5) (9). Lille want to keep the player on loan for another year before he moves to Manchester.
Bouaddi, 18, was also on Liverpool's radar. Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola were both tracking him, but City appear to have won the race (9).
Anderson already in the building
Amid all the exits and uncertainty, City have already dropped £116m on Elliot Anderson this summer (3). The midfielder is the marquee signing of the Maresca project, and that fee signals how highly the club rates him.
Fan reactions
The mood on the City subreddit is grim. One fan posted a graphic tracking the full clearout of the Guardiola squad over the last two years, and the Rodri news has only sharpened the sense that this is a complete rebuild, not a transition. Over on the Real Madrid subreddit, fans are tracking the Rodri negotiations closely and many seem confident a deal gets done. The prevailing feeling among City supporters right now: if Rodri goes too, this is not the same club anymore.
