Webb admits error on Haaland derby goal, City stay perfect

Webb admits Haaland's derby goal should not have stood

Manchester City won the derby 1–0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, and now the goal that won it has been called an error. Howard Webb has admitted a "serious error" let Erling Haaland's goal stand, with Bruno Fernandes in an offside position and interfering with play (1). The only goal of the game came from Haaland, for City's ten men, and was wrongly allowed (3).

It does not change the result. It does change the mood at Old Trafford, where the day was tense before and after the derby (2).

Michael Carrick is not dwelling on it. After the derby defeat, United's manager said the focus has to be on moving on (3). United turn around quickly, with a Carabao Cup tie against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday (2) (3).

Fan reactions

City fans are still chewing on the derby. One thread jokes that VAR decided Bruno Fernandes did nothing to Phil Foden, which tells you how the offside call landed with the support. The other big conversation is a new American fan asking how to learn the club's history, and getting a full welcome in the replies.
