Barcelona pass on Rashford fee, Ugarte out, £116m double deal close

Barcelona won't pay for Rashford

Barcelona are not willing to trigger Marcus Rashford's £26m buy-option, Pete O'Rourke has confirmed. That means Rashford returns to United this summer with his future completely up in the air. With one year left on his deal come July, you are running out of time to get a proper fee. (1)

Ugarte told to pack his bags

Manuel Ugarte has been informed he can leave this summer, Fabrizio Romano reports. The big-money signing never clicked and Michael Carrick's rebuild has no room for passengers. Getting his wages off the books is as important as any fee you might recoup. (8)

£116m double deal close, first signing 'done'

United are on the verge of a massive double swoop worth £116m, with one deal reportedly already over the line. Ederson and Mateus Fernandes are the names in the frame, both midfielders who fit the profile INEOS wants: young, intense, technically sharp. (4) (9)

Carrick: 'he's evolved so much'

Michael Carrick was full of praise for one United player ahead of the Brighton trip, saying 'he's evolved so much' and 'can do so many things.' Carrick also brushed off talk of needing a rest after guiding the team into the Champions League spots: 'I feel good. I've loved every minute of it.' (6)

Quick hits

Bournemouth's Alex Scott is on your radar. INEOS sees him as the right midfield profile and the 22-year-old is rated as 'amazing' internally. (2)

Jarrod Bowen is a name under discussion, but Pete O'Rourke says forward is not the top priority right now. If United do move for one, Bowen is someone you like. (3) (11)

Eduardo Camavinga wants to stay at Real Madrid. Fabrizio Romano says United have not made any approach yet. This one looks dead unless something shifts at the Bernabeu. (5)

Ederson only wants United despite another European giant sniffing around. That gives you a clear run at the Atalanta midfielder. (7)

Chelsea have flatly refused to sell Josh Acheampong. Ben Jacobs: 'He is just not for sale. Period.' Cross him off the list. (10)

Rafael Leao could be available at a cut price this summer. Milan may need to sell and United are monitoring. (11)

Micky van de Ven prefers Liverpool and United will not make an approach unless Spurs go down. Given they are staying up, forget this one. (12)

Fan reactions

The Carrick press conference has fans buzzing. His refusal to entertain talk of fatigue, 'I feel good, I've loved every minute of it', has gone down brilliantly on the subreddit. Bruno Fernandes also posted a heartfelt end-of-season message to supporters, calling the campaign 'yours' and 'ours', which has the fanbase feeling connected heading into the summer.
