Sesko out until January and United are hunting a striker

Sesko out until January

Benjamin Sesko is out until at least January with a shin injury. He is United's only recognised striker (1) (2).

Michael Carrick is now improvising with wingers up front. United have won twice in 12 games in all competitions, are out of the Carabao Cup and sit 16th in the Premier League (8).

If Sesko is your only number nine, this is the worst possible month to lose him.

Calvert-Lewin on the January list

United are considering a January move for Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin (2) (12).

A striker from a rival side is exactly the profile United need in the winter window, and the Sesko injury pushed it up the list (1) (2) (4) (12).

The free agent option fans keep raising

Mauro Icardi is available on a free transfer, and the argument goes that United should just sign him (1).

The reasoning is blunt: everyone outside the executive floor knew a striker was needed before the season started (1).

Brugge will not sell Tresoldi in January

United are among the clubs looking at Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi, along with Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea (12).

Brugge will not sell in January. That one is for the summer (12).

A 22-year-old level with Kane and Haaland

Arsenal and United are tracking a 22-year-old forward currently level with Harry Kane and Erling Haaland at the top of the Champions League scoring charts (11).

No name has been put on him yet. The scoring record is the pitch.

Carrick keeps his job

Carrick survives the Bournemouth defeat. INEOS are sticking with him, and he has cleared the air with Bruno Fernandes (8).

Some stability, at last, after two wins in 12 (8).

Martinez could be sold in January

United are ready to sell Lisandro Martinez in January, with Barcelona interested (8).

His contract expires next June, which is why United would have to sell now to get any money back: "The Argentine international's contract with the English club expires next June, which would force United to sell him now if they want to recoup any money" (8).

Rashford open to a January loan

United would sanction a January loan for Marcus Rashford with an option to buy, with Everton interested (4).

His £325,000-a-week wages are the sticking point (4).

Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday

United go to Chelsea on Saturday, 13:30 CET, in the Premier League (9).

Then Roma at home in the Champions League on Tuesday, November 3, and Aston Villa at home on Sunday, November 8.

Fan reactions

The subreddit is split between laughing at Jamie Carragher telling Aston Villa fans to "shut the f* up" over the Unai Emery link and reminiscing about Wayne Rooney comparing his own attributes with Harry Kane's. Neither thread is really about the football, and after five games without a win that is almost a relief. The Carragher thread has the most traffic.
