Two points dropped against 10 men

It is the second home league game in a row United have failed to beat ten men (9). Gary Neville did not soften it: "A worrying day for Michael Carrick" (8) (9).

Six points from six games, the worst start since 1986
United have six points from six Premier League games this season. That is the club's worst start to a top-flight campaign since 1986-87 (2) (7).
United sit 12th of 20 with a goal difference of zero. The last five league games read: draw, win, loss, draw, draw. They are winless in four (2) (8). The sack talk around Carrick has started (7) (8).
Carrick: we were off it
Carrick did not blame anyone else. "We couldn't find a way to get ourselves into the game," he said. "With the ball, without the ball, we were off it" (3) (11).
Danny Murphy pointed at the same problem from the other side, saying United's midfield cannot control games (10).
Tielemans signs until 2031
United have signed Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, on a contract until 2031 (4). It is a central midfield rebuild, with Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Andrey Santos and Ederson all in the mix (4).
Tielemans on the move: "It's hard to describe just how proud I am to join Manchester United" (4).
Atlético Madrid away is next
United are back in Champions League action on Tuesday at Atlético Madrid, 21:00 CEST. That is followed by Leeds away next Sunday, then Como away in the Champions League on Wednesday, October 21 (fixtures).
Before any of that, United's last European outing was a 4–0 home win over Sabah FK on September 10 (fixtures).
United asked about Giuliano Simeone
United have made an enquiry for Atlético Madrid winger Giuliano Simeone, Diego Simeone's son. Tottenham explored a deal too, and both Manchester clubs have asked (1).
Elsewhere, reports say Liverpool are chasing a Brazilian right winger with an £85m release clause after a United approach, and Bayern Munich have held fresh talks over United youngster JJ Gabriel (6) (14).
Fan reactions
The mood in the rival corners of the internet is not sympathetic. A clip of Erling Haaland being asked about a hostile Anfield makes the rounds, and his pause is the punchline: "It was like that against erm... erm… what's their name? Man Utd" (thread). It is the kind of clip that lands harder when your own team has six points from six.
