That changed on Wednesday at Leigh Sports Village. 10–1 against Sheffield United Women in the FA Womens League Cup, and the first competitive win under Eva Olid (5)(11). Jess Simpson scored the eighth, Mared Griffiths finished a hat-trick in the 81st minute, with Maya Le Tissier, Rebeca Bernal, Lea Schuller, Ella Toone and Amy Andrews also on the scoresheet (5)(10)(11). It is the opening game of the League Cup group stage, and United are into the second round (5).
Rooney went after Sesko, and he did not hold back
Benjamin Sesko missed the Fulham match with a shin problem and then pulled out of the Slovenia squad. Wayne Rooney did not accept it. "If you're trying to play No.9 and you've got a must-win game and you've got a sore shin and you're not playing, that's a big part of the problem" (2)(4). Rooney also took aim at the shinpads, calling them stupid (4). United drew 1–1 at Fulham on Sunday, and Sesko was not available for it (2)(4).
Shaw is on the way out, Mitchell is the name coming in
United only want to give Luke Shaw a short-term extension, and a left-back is now the priority for next summer (3)(6). Crystal Palace's Tyrick Mitchell has been identified as the replacement (3). Mitchell has informed United he wants to join, with January floated as a possible window (3)(7). United did not land Lewis Hall, who has signed a new Newcastle deal (6).
