Vinícius: renewal or the door
The signals are genuinely contradictory. On one side, Vinícius Júnior is close to a new contract until 2030 worth up to €30m annually, which would make him the highest earner at the club (16) (27). On the other, his camp has re-established contact with Manchester City (7), Arsenal are circling (1) (11), and Mourinho has reportedly told the board Madrid "will be better off without Vinicius Junior" (19) (23). What matters is that the Diomande deal, per multiple reports, is not contingent on Vinícius leaving. The plan is Mbappé, Vinícius, and Diomande together (20) (24). That is a statement of intent, not a hedge.
Rodri wants the move. City want the money.
Rodri has told Manchester City he wants Real Madrid for sporting and family reasons (16) (19) (20). That is the kind of leverage you cannot manufacture. City want at least €80m; Madrid have capped their offer at €60m (17). PSG have entered the race this week (17) (21) (30), but Rodri's preference is unambiguous.
A €20m gap is not insignificant, but when a player of Rodri's calibre pushes publicly, the selling club's position weakens. Madrid know this. The question is whether they blink first on the fee or wait City out.
What to watch
The Vinícius meeting. That is the hinge. If the contract gets done, Madrid enter August with a locked-in front three of Mbappé, Vinícius, and Diomande, plus a midfield pursuit of Rodri that looks increasingly winnable. If it does not, the €160m domino tips and the summer becomes something far messier.
