Roma away in the Champions League
Real Madrid are at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday 14 October to face Roma in Champions League matchday 2 (3). It is Roma's first home Champions League night in seven years, and the Olimpico sold out well in advance (2) (4). Gian Piero Gasperini is not hiding his confidence.
"For us it's a good moment and we want to measure ourselves against one of the best teams in Europe," Gasperini said. "Real maybe need a bit of a settling-in period having changed coach and way of playing. Let's remember they beat Inter though. It will be a prestigious game, worth a lot in the table too, but we are ready." (2)
It is also Mourinho's return to the Olimpico, and the loudest reunion of the night (2) (4).

Injuries and the likely XI
Éder Militão, Rodrygo and Raúl Asencio are the injury concerns going into the Roma game (4). The probable Madrid line-up has Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jude Bellingham in it, with Vinícius Jr and Arda Güler alongside Kylian Mbappé (4).
Roma's Donyell Malen is the man lined up opposite Mbappé (2) (4). For the hosts, Mile Svilar and Pierluigi Gollini are the keeper options, with Bryan Cristante, Marten de Roon, Matías Soulé, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Mora in the mix (4).
Bernardo Silva cannot get on the pitch

Carvajal signed for Getafe
Dani Carvajal is a Getafe player. The 34-year-old right-back, formerly of Real Madrid, agreed terms on Tuesday and signed until 30 June 2027 (8).
He put the turnaround down to his diet: "I asked a nutritionist and a coach for help and cut gluten out of my diet completely. And from there everything changed." (8)
Real Madrid watching Yildiz
Kenan Yildiz is on the Madrid radar. Arsenal have tracked him for a while, and Bayern Munich are in too, with Juventus valuing the forward at at least €100m ahead of the 2027 window (7).
