The week AIK lost to the bottom club
Halmstads BK 2–1 AIK. Malte Persson scored in the 90th minute at Örjans vall and AIK lost to the team sitting last in the table (1)(3). Mads Døhr Thychosen did not dress it up: "Det är alldeles för dåligt" (3). One Expressen analysis went further and called the performance "såg ut som sabotage" (4).
That is four straight games without a win. Two draws, one loss, and a 1–4 home defeat to Västerås SK in the middle of it (15). AIK sit eighth on 33 points after 21 games, goal difference minus two. The European places are drifting out of reach, and the team is drifting with them.
Riveiro apologised. Hove did not
After the final whistle José Riveiro apologised to the travelling support (2). Johan Hove refused: "Vi ber aldrig om ursäkt för att torska en fotbollsmatch" (2). Two men in the same dressing room reading the same result two different ways.

Riveiro's position all season has been that this team attacks: "Inte sant att vi är ett kontringslag", he said after the VSK defeat, and he wants a win in every remaining match (15). What the Halmstad game showed was something else. AIK had the ball and never looked like scoring the goal that settled it. Linus Carlstrand was signed in the summer and has been the story of the second half of the season (27). At Örjans vall his goals dried up, and nobody else picked up the slack (1).
The damallsvenska derby is the counter-argument
AIK 2–1 Hammarby. Two goals inside the opening five minutes, and the team second in the Damallsvenskan left Solna with nothing (6)(12). Nova Selin, 18, laid on the opener (12). Matilda Plan started at centre-back, moved up front when the whistle went, and Hammarby's defenders spent the warm-up watching the wrong player (5).
"Man vill förstöra så mycket som möjligt", Plan said afterwards (11). That win kept AIK in touch with third place and put a dent in Hammarby's title race (11)(20). Same club, same city, two squads moving in opposite directions.
The injuries are being treated as the root cause
AIK have had 73 injuries this season. The club has produced a 50-page report and responded with a transition coach, a Head of Performance, and a pre-season base at Bosön (18)(21)(23).
Strategy chief Jeremy Steele put the cost plainly: "Att ha 33 procent av budgeten på läktaren... det är mördade" (25). A third of the wage bill unavailable is the season in one sentence. Stanley Wilson, out since May with a groin injury, is training fully again and was in the squad at Halmstad (7)(8)(26). Wilmer Olofsson said yes to the U21s after talking it through with Riveiro (10).
What to watch
AIK have no fixture listed before the international window, which means the next two weeks belong to the physio room and the report. Wilson's return to the midfield is the tightest thing to watch: he gives Riveiro a passing option between the lines that has not existed since May (8)(26).
Then the table. Eighth, 33 points, minus two. Riveiro says every remaining game is a must-win (15). Halmstad was the easiest one left on paper and it finished 2–1 to the bottom club. Whatever comes next, it comes without the excuse of a soft opponent.
