The week that turned
AIK went to Gamla Ullevi on Saturday with 13 first-team players unavailable and came back with three points. Örgryte 3–4 AIK. Five days after a 0–3 home humiliation against the same opponent, the squad produced the most jarring response imaginable: behind twice, a red card against the hosts, and a comeback that flipped the entire narrative of the week (3) (8) (15).
This was not supposed to happen. AIK had just been dismantled at home by bottom-placed Örgryte, a result so bad José Riveiro admitted the team was unrecognizable and took full responsibility (24). The mood around the club turned sour. Then Saturday arrives and the same opponent takes a 2–1 lead. At that moment, it looked like the crisis was deepening. Instead, Linus Carlstrand scored in his first start, Sixten Gustafsson got his first Allsvenskan goal, and AIK walked out of Gothenburg with a 4–3 win (4) (8) (17).
The injury crisis is no longer a footnote
Thirteen players missing. That is not misfortune, it is a structural problem. Sotirios Papagiannopoulos limped off during the 0–3 defeat, Johan Hove was suspended, and Martin Ellingsen remained sidelined among the absentees (15) (18) (19). The internal review led by recruitment chief Miika Takkula, now investigating the club's medical and performance protocols, is the smartest thing AIK have done this month. Nine players on the treatment table is not a coincidence.

Despite the chaos, Riveiro unleashed the young forwards and trusted them to chase the game. Carlstrand, the 21-year-old who chose Allsvenskan to develop before a future move abroad, repaid that trust immediately (8) (13). Gustafsson celebrated his first league goal in front of his friends in the stands: "Something I've dreamed about since I was little," he said (4). These kids did not look like kids.
Takkula's window: hits, misses, and a waiting game
The Samed Bazdar deal collapsed. The forward signed for Sint-Truidense instead (11). AIK also lost out on two young targets to Djurgården, Eze Onuoha and Angelo Agbejoye, which stings doubly now.
Nana-Kofi Donkor has been signed from FC Dila Gori, a winger strong in one-on-one situations according to Takkula, but he cannot play competitive matches until 2027 (2) (21). That is a long wait for a team that needs help now. Expressen reports a bid for Lillestrøm winger Linus Alperud, though nothing is done (25). Two starting-caliber reinforcements are still needed and the clock is ticking.
What to watch
The derby. Sunday, August 16, away at Djurgården. Amel Mujanic is suspended after picking up a yellow card he still cannot believe: "I felt, what the hell. Ten minutes gone, gives me a yellow card, come on," he said (5). The list of absentees may shrink or grow depending on Papagiannopoulos and Ellingsen. Djurgården already won the off-pitch battles this window by snatching Onuoha and Agbejoye. Now AIK have to win the one that matters.
