When an 18-year-old with 18 senior appearances becomes the most expensive sale in Nordic football history, you know the game has changed. Zadok Yohanna's move to Brighton, confirmed this Saturday, will bring AIK somewhere between €22 and €23 million (1) (2) (3) (4) (5). That is more than Alexander Isak commanded. More than any Swedish club has ever received for a single player.
And AIK needed every krona. The club sits 10th in Allsvenskan with 12 points from 10 matches and a negative-four goal difference. A 3–0 home collapse against Sirius last week laid the desperation bare. This is not a club building from strength. It is a club being kept afloat by one extraordinary asset.
Chelsea and Newcastle both had bids accepted, but Yohanna chose Brighton (7) (14). "I had many good people around me who took care of me. Everyone loved me, so it was hard to leave," Yohanna told FotbollDirekt (7). Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler did not frame it as a development punt: "I know he is a player who can make a difference in attack" (8).

Takkula's balancing act
Miika Takkula, AIK's recruitment chief, was blunt about what the Yohanna money means: "It won't change our plan" (6). He has a defined sales target for the summer and selling remains the priority, not spending (12) (16).
Yet the club is not standing entirely still. Stanley Wilson, one of the spring's breakthrough performers, signed an extension through 2029 (6). The internal conversation has already turned to replacing Yohanna, with Degerfors product Elias Pihlström, now at Lugano, emerging as a name under consideration (8) (15).
Whether these moves constitute a genuine strategy or improvised survival is the question. Takkula insists on the former. The table suggests the latter.
The other stories this club cannot ignore
Two reports this week cut deeper than any transfer saga. A new book alleges that three AIK players planned to deliberately lose a match in 2023, with then-coach Andreas Brännström reportedly receiving information about the plot (10). Separately, SVT reports that AIK continued business with the Universal agency after publicly ending the relationship (11).
These are not football problems. They strike at the integrity of the institution. For a fanbase already weathering a 10th-place campaign, the departure of Bersant Celina, and the looming sale of their brightest talent, these revelations add a corrosive dimension. The question is no longer just whether AIK can climb the table. It is whether the structures around the team are sound enough to support any rebuild.

The Yohanna deal buys AIK time, credibility, and options. None of those things win football matches by themselves. The summer window will define whether this becomes a reset or a fire sale that spirals. Watch for movement on a Yohanna replacement and for any clarity, however guarded, from the club on the match-fixing allegations. Fans deserve answers that go beyond transfer briefings.
