Míchel free to take over as Ajax's top target leaves Girona

Míchel is free, now Ajax must decide

Girona manager Míchel has confirmed his departure from the La Liga club, clearing the path for Ajax to make their move (1) (2). The 50-year-old had been Ajax's top candidate to take over permanently from interim coach Óscar García. One complication: Míchel just suffered relegation with Girona, finishing 18th in a disastrous campaign. That won't go unnoticed by a fanbase already scarred by the Sven Mislintat era. The board now faces a straight choice, back their man despite the relegation on his CV, or look elsewhere.

Tahirovic to Celtic talk resurfaces

Scottish champions Celtic are reportedly interested in former Ajax midfielder Benjamin Tahirovic (3). The Bosnian arrived in Amsterdam with promise but never delivered. He has rebuilt some value at Brøndby IF, and Celtic appear willing to take a chance. Ajax hold no financial stake here, he is gone, and this one is just a footnote in the club's recent recruitment failures.
