Henderson and Welbeck to Chelsea confirmed, Barcola picks Liverpool

Henderson to Chelsea, here we go

It is done. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Jordan Henderson to Chelsea with his signature "here we go" (4). A two-year deal on a free transfer after the former Liverpool captain left Brentford by mutual consent on Wednesday (1) (4). "I leave Brentford with a lot of gratitude for the opportunity the club gave me, and for the support and care shown to me and my family from day one," Henderson said (1). He joins a Chelsea midfield that has lacked vocal leadership and experience.

Welbeck too, and Alajbegovic talks underway

Danny Welbeck to Chelsea is also a done deal. Romano gave it the same treatment: "Danny Welbeck to Chelsea, here we go! Deal in place with Brighton for the English striker. Welbeck agreed terms with Chelsea until 2028" (5). Brighton approved his departure after Welbeck formally asked to go. Meanwhile, Chelsea are in talks with Bayer Leverkusen's Kerim Alajbegovic over personal terms (5). Alonso is not done yet.

Barcola says no to Chelsea

Bradley Barcola does not want Stamford Bridge. Chelsea had concrete interest in the PSG winger, but Fabrizio Romano put it plainly: "Basically, the situation is that Liverpool want Barcola. Liverpool have Barcola as a top priority. Barcola wants to go to Liverpool" (2). The 23-year-old has made his choice and Chelsea will have to look elsewhere.

Paez heading out on loan again

Kendry Paez is being lined up for another temporary move (3). The Ecuadorian wonderkid, still only 19, has already spent time at River Plate, KV Mechelen and Trabzonspor. Chelsea see more first-team football as the priority and a third loan in two seasons looks likely.

Leeds want Delap

Leeds United are exploring a move for Liam Delap (6). Chelsea are open to offers after a difficult debut season for the striker. Delap joined with high expectations but never found his rhythm under the previous regime, and Alonso appears willing to move him on.

Ex-Chelsea man Lawrence eyed by Ipswich

Ipswich Town are in the hunt for former Chelsea academy player Henry Lawrence (7). The right-back is now at Standard Liege after spells with Dynamo Kyiv. Gary O'Neil wants to bring him back to the Premier League.

Fan reactions

The mood is split between disbelief and pragmatism. The Henderson-Welbeck double signing has fans joking about a Sunderland reunion 15 years in the making, while others point to the experience both bring to a young dressing room. The bigger concern surfacing on the subreddit is the Barcola rejection, with some wondering if Liverpool's pull under a settled project is already outpacing Alonso's new era. Read more
