The derby loss was not the whole story
Beşiktaş beat Fenerbahçe 2–1 at Şükrü Saracoğlu on Saturday, overturning a first-half deficit (2) (9). Fenerbahçe have now lost their first derby of the season at home, and it was their first league defeat of the campaign. The form line says it plainly: D L W W L. Six points from four games, fourth place, and the gap to the top is already there to see.
The defeat itself was ugly in the way Istanbul derbies often are. Dušan Vlahović and Milan Škriniar were at each other's throats, and the scenes carried across the European press (5) (16) (23). Rıdvan Yılmaz scored the equaliser, Vlahović the winner (6) (10). Fenerbahçe led and lost it. That is the fact that will sting most.
Guendouzi's ban lands at the worst possible time
UEFA banned Mattéo Guendouzi for four matches, two suspended, and fined Mason Greenwood following the scenes after the Champions League play-off against Lyon (1). The club said it will appeal the decisions to the UEFA Appeals Committee (1).

The timing matters. Roma come to Kadıköy on Thursday in the Champions League, and Fenerbahçe will have to start without a key midfielder for a match they need points from. Roma arrive in form, having just beaten Atalanta 2–1 in Serie A (4) (12). Losing the derby is one wound. Losing a starter for Europe's biggest night is another, and it is self-inflicted.
The pressure is already audible
The noise around the club did not wait. Aziz Yıldırım questioned an unnamed player after the derby, demanding to know why he did not play (17). Commentators piled in. Ömer Üründül said it could have been a historic humiliation (18) (27). Haldun Domaç called the squad old (24). Nihat Kahveci told a star he cannot play walking (22) (30). Old Anderson Talisca posted "you reap what you sow" after the final whistle (13).
None of that helps İsmail Kartal, and none of it changes the table. When a president questions individual players and every pundit in the country takes his turn, the manager is managing noise, not just football.
What to watch
Roma on Thursday is the immediate test, and it comes with Guendouzi missing (1). After that, Gaziantep away on Monday the 14th offers a chance to reset the league form before Eyüpspor at home the following Sunday. Fenerbahçe need a response in both competitions, and they need it fast.
