Champions League opener at Anfield

Liverpool host Atletico Madrid Wednesday night at Anfield. This is the first match of the Champions League campaign (1) (3) (5) (6).

And Atletico arrive as a gift. Diego Simeone's side lost 3–0 away at Athletic Bilbao over the weekend, conceding two goals in three minutes in the second half (3).

Sorloth out, Atletico missing a threat

Alexander Sorloth is injured and did not travel to England for the match (3). Atletico will have to find goals from Julian Alvarez and Jonathan David instead.

Simeone: 'hell from the first minute'

Simeone expects a hostile Anfield. He said the problem in Bilbao was not motivation but a loss of awareness: 'We simply switched off. Now we come to a magnificent stadium, in a great atmosphere. We have to be ready from the first minute because it will be fierce' (3).

Mac Allister is 'very sad' over his contract

Alexis Mac Allister spoke openly in a press conference before the Champions League game. He said he was 'very sad' not to have received a new contract offer over the summer (2) (6). He addressed Liverpool bosses directly about it.

Iraola responds to the contract claim

Andoni Iraola had to address contract discussions ahead of the Champions League campaign beginning (5). No new deal has been offered to Mac Allister.

Liverpool chased Minteh, Brighton said no twice
