Andrey Santos signs as United hunt more midfielders

Andrey Santos is a United player

Done deal. Fabrizio Romano confirms Andrey Santos has signed for Manchester United from Chelsea after passing his medical on Friday afternoon (1). The Brazilian midfielder arrives in a deal worth £50m (4). That is midfield signing number one, and your club is not stopping there.

Two more midfielders wanted

United wanted three midfielders this summer. Casemiro is gone. Manuel Ugarte is out with a long-term injury. The midfield is short, and Michael Carrick knows it. Football Insider reports the club is exploring two more midfield signings after Santos, with different names on the radar (3). Ederson of Atalanta is one of them, but that deal is now in serious doubt.

Ederson deal could collapse

United are ready to pull the plug on the Ederson signing. Medical concerns flagged during the process have pushed INEOS to look elsewhere (5). The Atalanta midfielder was a target, but the club will not force a deal that does not stack up medically.

Newcastle's next sale could help United

Newcastle have already sold Bruno Guimaraes. Now reports suggest another £60m-rated player could leave St James' Park, and United are in the conversation (2). No name yet, but the door looks open.
