Ajax 1–3 PSV: the ArenA hoodoo is dead
Peter Bosz had never won in the Johan Cruijff ArenA as PSV coach. Four seasons, zero wins, against what he called weaker Ajax sides. On Saturday he got his win against what he now calls "the best Ajax in all those years" (13). That contradiction tells you how much this result mattered.
The scoreline says comfortable. Ajax 1–3 PSV (4). But the defining moment was not a goal. It was Ruben van Bommel's challenge on Aaron Bouwman, the Ajax defender now out for a month with a bruised lung and sternum and still in hospital (1) (2) (8). The tackle has dominated the conversation all weekend. It should. It was reckless, and the fact PSV won the topper does not make it disappear.
Yet there is a bigger story underneath the noise: PSV won a title race match in the away ground of their only serious challenger, and made it look normal.

The table is not lying
PSV now have 13 points from 5 games and a six-point cushion over Ajax (10) (6). Six goals at Utrecht, five against Groningen, three at Ajax. That is a team in full stride, not one grinding out results.
The quiet engine of Saturday was Lutsharel Geertruida, who scored on his full debut and had Bosz answering a fair question: "Must you throw him in for a topper?" (9) (4). The answer so far is yes. A debut goal in the ArenA buys patience no matter what the tackle debate does to the vibe around the week.
Two sides of the same Sunday
PSV Vrouwen beat Feyenoord 0–6 away, with Chimera Ripa scoring straight from a corner (3) (7). Reigning champions, third-place side from last season, no contest. It is the same shape as the men's story: dominance that now looks structural, not occasional.
What to watch
Shakhtar Donetsk come to Eindhoven on Thursday for the Champions League opener (NEXT MATCH). Bosz has to manage the Van Bommel fallout without letting it derail momentum. The league fixture list stays kind: Sparta at home, then Twente away. The real question is whether this PSV can carry Eredivisie swagger into Europe. That answer starts Thursday.
