Mijnans arrives, the rebuild takes shape
PSV have their man. Sven Mijnans will join from AZ for €13 million after the clubs reached an agreement this week, a deal that fends off serious interest from Ajax (1) (2) (5). The 25-year-old was kept out of AZ's friendly on Saturday, the clearest signal yet that the transfer is done (11). This is not a reactive panic buy. PSV identified Mijnans as the successor to Ismael Saibari months ago, and they got it done before preseason had even properly begun.
That matters, because the Saibari-shaped hole in midfield is real. The Moroccan international completed his record move to Bayern Munich and then limped out of the World Cup round of 16 against Canada on Saturday with an injury (3) (15). PSV already cashed the cheque, so the concern here is symbolic rather than financial. Saibari was the engine, the pressing trigger, the late runner. Mijnans is a different profile: more passer than destroyer, more metronome than chaos agent. Bosz will need to adjust.
Bosz stays, but the Oranje shadow will not disappear
Peter Bosz walked away from a television interview on Saturday. The question was about the vacant Netherlands national team job, and Bosz had had enough (13). "I have not said the door is closed," he admitted earlier, but he refused to engage further (18). The timing is awkward. PSV are in the early stages of a significant squad recalibration, and the man leading it is being publicly floated as Ronald Koeman's successor.

Bosz also found time to call Saibari "the example" for young PSV players, proof that staying and developing at the club can lead to a record transfer (23). The message was aimed at the academy, but it doubles as a statement about his own project: continuity matters. Hard to sell that when you are storming off camera rather than ruling yourself out.
The first friendly and the injuries that linger
PSV drew 1–1 with Antwerp in their opening preseason match. Noah Fernandez scored the goal, a bright moment for the youngster (21). The more significant sight was Alassane Pléa returning to the pitch after 10 and a half months out. Bosz called it a positive (10).
Ruben van Bommel and Mauro Junior were not involved, both still recovering (10). That pair missing from the start of preseason is a concern given the clause situation hanging over multiple first-team players. Joey Veerman, Sergiño Dest, and Mauro Junior all have fixed-price exit clauses, leaving PSV vulnerable if the market moves late.
What to watch
Mijnans is the first piece. He will not be the last. PSV missed out on 16-year-old talent Emmanuel Fejokwu to Feyenoord this week, a reminder that not every target lands (28). The next friendly is the real test: how quickly Mijnans integrates, whether van Bommel and Mauro Junior are close to returning, and whether Bosz is still answering questions about Oranje. All three storylines will run deep into July.
