Perisic's penalty miss costs PSV in Leipzig
RB Leipzig 1–0 PSV. One point from two Champions League matchdays, and it came down to a penalty. Ivan Perisic stepped up before the break and missed, and PSV left the Red Bull Arena with nothing (1)(4)(11). Ridle Baku, who conceded it for handball, was blunt about it: "Ik voelde niets," he said, which means he felt nothing (11).
Bosz: "We were the better team"
Peter Bosz did not hide his view. "Ik denk dat we over negentig minuten een goede wedstrijd hebben gespeeld," he said, and he called PSV the team "voetballend de bovenliggende partij," the better side on the ball (3). He felt his players deserved more, and pointed at Perisic's penalty as the moment that decided it (4).
Mauro Junior and Mijnans take it on themselves
Your captain owned it. Mauro Junior took responsibility for the 1–0 defeat, and Sven Mijnans was just as frustrated with his own missed chance (1). Mijnans started up front in Leipzig. "Daar moet ik gewoon voor zorgen," he said, meaning that is on him to put away (12).

Kovár kept it from being worse
Perfect goalkeeping in a losing team. Matej Kovár made save after save in Leipzig, and PSV's players were quick to say so (2)(13). He was not hiding his mood: "Om eerlijk te zijn is het een behoorlijke klap," he said, meaning honestly, this one stings (5). He added that most of the game PSV were better, and that "dit moet onze standaard zijn," this has to be the standard (10). On the criticism he has been getting lately, he shrugged: "Eerlijk gezegd boeit het me niet," which means it honestly does not bother him (14).
The German hoodoo is almost 50 years old
PSV still cannot win in Germany. That run now stretches nearly 50 years, and Leipzig kept it going (8). The German press did not write off Bosz's side. They called it a "fantastisch" contest and noted that Bosz "beschikt over een schat aan talent," that he has a wealth of talent at his disposal (7). One outlet argued PSV shortchanged themselves, calling it "een krachtmeting op ooghoogte," a contest on equal footing (9).
One point, same as last season
Two matchdays, one point. That is exactly what PSV had at this stage last season, when the draw was far tougher (6). The optimism from the August draw has not been repaid yet. You sit second in the Eredivisie on 19 points from eight games, with a goal difference of +16, form reading D W L W L.
Den Haag first, Porto next
No time to dwell. PSV go to ADO Den Haag on Saturday, October 17, kicking off at 16:30 CEST in the Eredivisie. Then the Champions League trip to FC Porto on Tuesday, October 20 at 21:00 CEST, before Feyenoord come to Eindhoven on Sunday, October 25 (15).
