PSV 1–3 Villarreal, Bosz calls it 'simply bad'
That was rough. PSV lost 1–3 at home to Villarreal on Saturday in the last serious friendly before the Johan Cruijff Schaal (1) (3) (6). Peter Bosz did not hold back. "It was simply bad," he said flatly (3) (9) (11). He went further: "You can be very happy with that scoreline" (5). Villarreal could have scored more. One week before the season's first trophy, your team looked nowhere near ready.
Kovár's nightmare, Bosz shields him
Matej Kovár had a day to forget. The goalkeeper made costly errors and was singled out by critics afterwards (2) (8). Bosz, however, refused to pile on. "Ultimately I'm going to expect fewer mistakes from him," Bosz said, but added: "It's a shame that's what sticks" (2) (4) (9) (10). He made it clear Kovár has his backing, even if the performance fell short.
Bouhamdi, 18, gave Bosz a reason to smile
The one bright spot came off the bench. Amir Bouhamdi, an 18-year-old, came on and caught everyone's eye. "I perked up too. It was fun to watch. He played with freedom. He played well," Bosz said (7) (13). PSV fans online agreed: "I didn't know he was that good," one wrote (7). In a flat performance, the kid gave the stadium something to hold onto.
Joël Ndala leaves Manchester City for Cercle Brugge
Former PSV academy forward Joël Ndala has left Manchester City permanently, signing for Cercle Brugge (12). The move closes the door on a City career that never took off after he departed Eindhoven.
