The four minutes that cost PSV the top spot
FC Twente 3–2 PSV. PSV led, lost the lead, then lost everything in the closing stages at De Grolsch Veste, and by Sunday evening they were third in the Eredivisie (1) (10). AZ beat Telstar 1–0 through Mexx Meerdink and took back first place going into the international break (8) (25). Peter Bosz had spent Saturday warning about a scenario like Ajax's 2–2 draw with Excelsior (27). His team walked straight into one.
Til scores twice and says the rest
Guus Til scored both PSV goals and refused to enjoy either. "We zien er gewoon niet goed uit," he said afterwards, which is about as blunt as a two-goal scorer gets (9). He also confirmed he found out about his Oranje omission through the media, with Bosz calling that "opmerkelijk" (19) (30). A player carrying this team in the box and being ignored by the national coach is not a side story. That is PSV's season in one sentence.
Pepi off after eight minutes
Ricardo Pepi lasted eight minutes before going off injured (6) (22). PSV lost their starting striker inside ten minutes and still had to play the rest of the game with a reshuffled front line, and the USMNT now has a selection problem for the international window (15). Add Mauro Júnior's admission that Twente simply out-pushed his side (14), and the pattern is clear: this squad is strong enough to lead the league, and thin enough to wobble when one body drops.
The Bosz call that will be debated
Picking Pepi ahead of Sven Mijnans, who had just scored a hat-trick against Sparta Rotterdam, looked like a formality until the eighth minute (5) (11) (20). Ruben van Bommel's controversial yellow card in Enschede only muddied the picture further (23). Six games, 16 points, +15 goal difference, and PSV still look like the best team in the country (1). But the first defeat always tells you more than the six wins before it.
What to watch after the break
PSV sit third, 16 points from six, and the international break arrives with Pepi's injury unresolved and Til still waiting for a phone call (1) (19). Bosz has two weeks to decide whether the Mijnans or Pepi question was ever really a question. When the league resumes, the Eredivisie's best attack has to prove the Twente collapse was a bad afternoon and not a pattern.
