Sano deal is off, PSV walk away from NEC's asking price
Kodai Sano will not be coming to Eindhoven. PSV have pulled the plug on the deal for the NEC defender after deciding the asking price was not realistic (1) (4) (7). The club reportedly valued the Japanese full-back well below NEC's demands, and the gap proved too wide to bridge (7). A frustrating one, because Sano was a genuine target for a backline that needs bodies.
1–3 to Villarreal, and Bosz did not hide his anger
PSV lost 1–3 to Villarreal in a friendly on Saturday, and Peter Bosz was blunt afterwards. "I have never seen us give away this much," he said (13). Mauro Júnior was involved in a defensive mix-up, and Matej Kovár made two costly errors, one of them a glaring mistake that led directly to a goal (8) (15). Bosz did not sugarcoat it: "This is why we didn't bring Sven Mijnans here, to defend like this" (2).

Mijnans: 'I chose PSV for Bosz and the Champions League'
Sven Mijnans arrived from AZ and did not need long to explain why. "I chose both PSV and the coach. Attacking football, making runs, playing attractively, that is what I stand for too" (5) (11). With Jerdy Schouten out long-term after a cruciate ligament injury, Mijnans will be asked to step in next to Joey Veerman right away. Veerman was honest about Schouten's recovery: "There will be some really tough times ahead" (10).
Bosz defended Kovár after a tough night
Bosz did not let his goalkeeper take the fall alone. "It is such a shame he short-changes himself," Bosz said of Kovár after the Villarreal friendly (9). Kovár made several good saves but was also directly at fault for two goals (8) (15). Bosz stood by him publicly, a sign he will not throw his keeper under the bus before the season starts.
Bouhamdi, 18, the one bright spot against Villarreal
Amir Bouhamdi was the name fans took from the defeat. The 18-year-old winger shone in the friendly, with PSV supporters calling him "a real bright spot" on a rough night (6). In a match where most of the team struggled, an academy kid giving the fans something to talk about matters.
