Til wins it in Porto and PSV make Dutch history

Til's goal made history in Porto

FC Porto 0–1 PSV. First Champions League win of the season, and the first time a Dutch club has ever won at the Estádio do Dragão (1) (2) (4). Guus Til scored it (10). He had waited a long time for that one, after years of questions about why a player who scores so freely in the Eredivisie could not do it in Europe (3).

The Dutch papers did not hold back. "Superior" was the word, with PSV described as stubborn against Porto's initiative and nerve (8). Another line: no poep in the broek, and plenty of spektakel (2). Porto's own press called it a desolate performance from the Dragons (11).

Your team is third in the Eredivisie on 19 points from 9 games, and that form line reads L W L L W. The away wins have been rare this season. This one came at the right time.

Bajraktarevic was the one who stood out

Rik Elfrink put it plainly in De Telegraaf: after Ivan Perisic, Esmir Bajraktarevic has made the biggest impression of any winger this season (4). Peter Bosz agreed and singled him out for praise after the match (7).

Sven Mijnans got the man of the match nod from Bosz, one week after his red card in the Eredivisie (6).

Bosz heard you before kickoff

"Da drengene begyndte på opvarmningen, kunne jeg høre vores fans overdøve alt andet. Jeg stod i omklædningsrummet og fik selv lyst til at spille" (10). That is Bosz on the away end in Porto, saying the PSV support drowned out everything else and that he wanted to lace up his own boots.

He was proud of the team afterwards, and he had injury news that sounded better than expected from the treatment room (5) (6).

Kovář is the worry

Arnold Bruggink and Bram van Polen both said Matěj Kovář did not convince in Porto (1). Bruggink's line was that the goalkeeper looks super uncomfortable back there. PSV kept the clean sheet anyway.

Farioli did not want to hear the word crisis

A reporter used it in the press conference after FC Porto 0–1 PSV, and Francesco Farioli was visibly irritated (9). His own explanation for the defeat pointed at the chances they wasted, and he named Oskar Pietuszewski, whose actions produced opportunities Porto did not take (12).

Feyenoord at home on Sunday

Feyenoord Rotterdam come to Eindhoven on Sunday 25 October, 14:30 CET. That is the next one, and it is the big one in the Eredivisie. Willem II follow at home on Saturday 31 October, 18:45 CET.
