World Cup opener against Algeria set for Tuesday

Argentina kicks off its 2026 World Cup defense on Tuesday against Algeria in the group stage opener (1) (2). Szymon Marciniak has been appointed to officiate Argentina's World Cup opener against Algeria on Tuesday (2) (3) (4). The Polish referee is deeply familiar to Argentine fans: he officiated the 2022 World Cup final in which Argentina beat France on penalties. His assignment to the debut match is being seen as a positive sign by supporters.
