Colombia out as Kobel wall sends Switzerland through
Switzerland end the run
It is over. Switzerland beat Colombia in the round of 16 to reach their first World Cup quarter-final since 1954 (1). Gregor Kobel was the wall. The Swiss goalkeeper carried his Dortmund form straight into Vancouver and locked Colombia out when it mattered most.
Duran heads to Celtic
Colombian forward Camilo Duran is on his way to Scotland. Celtic are signing the 22-year-old from Qarabag for £5.5m, their first move of the transfer window (2). BBC Sport describes him as a bit of a rebel with the ball at his feet, direct, unpredictable, and comfortable across the front line.
Manzambi doubt for Argentina
Switzerland paid a price for the win. Johan Manzambi, their breakout star, picked up an injury before the Colombia match and is now a serious doubt for the quarter-final against Argentina (3). The Swiss will need him if they want to keep this run going.
