Bilic returns for second spell as Croatia boss
Bilic takes the job again
Slaven Bilic is back. Croatia have reappointed him as head coach after Zlatko Dalic stepped down following the World Cup exit (1) (2) (3).
The 2–1 loss to Portugal, the disallowed Gvardiol equaliser, the formal complaint to FIFA, Dalic leaves that behind, and Bilic walks straight into it.
"I have the complete confidence in our players, and it is my responsibility to bring energy, ambition and determination to ensure that Croatia remains among football's elite," Bilic said (3).
This is his second spell in charge. The first one, back in 2006, ended badly, he was sacked after Croatia failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup (2). Now he inherits a squad still raw from the Round of 32 exit, with Modric still in midfield and the federation still demanding answers from FIFA.
