Koubek resigns after group-stage exit

Miroslav Koubek is out. The Czechia head coach resigned after your team failed to reach the World Cup knockout stage (1) (2).

He did not go quietly. "A media campaign based on a number of half-truths and fabrications against me also contributed to my decision," Koubek said. "In this atmosphere, my work for the Czech national team would no longer make sense" (1).

The campaign was grim: a 2–1 loss to South Korea, a 1–1 draw with South Africa, and a decisive defeat to Mexico that ended it. Patrik Schick's frustration during the South Africa match, waving off the referee, captured the mood.

The search for a new manager starts now.
