Saka cleared to face Ghana as England return to full strength

Saka is back, and England are at full strength for Tuesday

Bukayo Saka returned to normal England training on Monday after managing an Achilles issue (2) (6). The winger had been a doubt for the Group L meeting with Ghana at BMO Field, but Thomas Tuchel now has him available. Declan Rice is expected to anchor midfield as usual.

Jamie Carragher had warned that England could not afford to rest Rice against Ghana (1). Saka, he argued, was a different case: do not risk him if there is any doubt. That doubt appears to have cleared.

The mood in your camp: McDermott's pride and a London story

Ghana assistant coach Mick McDermott has spoken about the pride of representing the Black Stars at a World Cup. The Belfast native called it the pinnacle of a long coaching journey that has taken him through the United States and the Middle East (4).

Elsewhere, a Ghana player born in London and developed through the English football pyramid is preparing to face the country of his birth on Tuesday (8). The player, whose identity the source does not name, is one Carlos Quieroz may lean on for local knowledge against England.

Ghana must win after Panama

All of this lands ahead of Tuesday night's World Cup Group L fixture: England v Ghana in Toronto (1) (3) (5) (6) (7). The Black Stars opened their campaign against Panama in the same venue. England are targeting qualification for the round of 32 with a win. Quieroz, the former Iran and Portugal manager, leads the dugout. Tuesday's kick-off is the second group match for both sides.

Fan reactions

One Ghana supporter has taken pre-match mind games to another level. A self-described witch doctor claims he will place a curse on Harry Kane to derail England's World Cup hopes r/soccer. The subreddit is treating it with the mix of amusement and intrigue you would expect.
