Diomande snubbed by McAteer in Liverpool transfer debate
Former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer has weighed in on the Yan Diomande transfer chatter, and it is not the endorsement Ivorian fans might hope for. Speaking about Liverpool's interest in the Chelsea-linked winger, McAteer said he would take RB Leipzig's Bradley Barcola instead: "Between Diomande and Barcola, I would probably go for Barcola right now. I don't think Liverpool need to buy potential anymore" (1). Diomande, fresh off a World Cup where Ivory Coast fell 2–1 to Norway in the Round of 32, is valued around £85m by Chelsea. McAteer's critique is not about talent but timing, he argues Liverpool are past the development stage and need ready-made stars.
